Lindsay Nicole Chambers is a star on the brink! Currently, she is hitting the road with Kinky Boots on Tour as Lauren! Lindsay is no stranger to the stage though, with Broadway credits including Lysistrata Jones (Robin), Legally Blonde, and Hairspray. She has also seen in the popular online mini-series called "Submissions Only," as Gail Liner. She chats about the show, life on the road, her career, and MUCH MORE!!
What has it been like to take Kinky Boots on Tour around the country?
What about this show makes it so special, and what has been your favorite stop so far? It has been exhilarating! We're coming up to some of my favorite cities: Chicago and Boston. We were just in Ohio, which is my home state, so that was really great- got to see lots of family and friends. Can you tell us a little bit about your character, Lauren?
What is her purpose in the show, and what is her purpose at the show factory? What are some of her strengths and weaknesses? Lauren has been working in the factory since she got out of school. She is the last step in the shoe making process- she boxes up the shoes and puts a Price and Son pamphlet in each box. She doesn't have much of a filter- she says what's on her mind and she has a very active imagination, which sometimes carries her away a bit! Lauren is the one who challenges Charlie to think outside the box and find some other product to make. She realizes half way through the show that she's got a major crush on her boss. What is your favorite song in the show? Mine, of course. Ha. No- really, my favorite song is Not My Father's Son. I love that the two men are realizing that they have so much more in common than they would have ever thought. What is one thing you cannot live without in your dressing room? Ricola and pictures of my husband/friends/family. That's two things... You worked as a lead character in the hit online min-series called "Submissions Only," will there be another season? Where did the idea come from that series? Do you think it accurately portrays what being an actor and going on auditions, and the lives on casting directors is like? I think it's pretty accurate!! There are SO many funny audition stories floating around, and while some of the audition scenes in Submissions Only were made up some of them really happened! I had worked with Kate Wethehead in Legally Blonde and got a call or an email from her out of the blue asking if I wanted to be in this little show she and Andrew Keenan Bolger were going to film. I jumped at the chance to have fun with them and meet new people and play that hilarious character and I wasn't working at the time, so I knew I had plenty of time to spare! What have you learned about yourself as an actor while in this show? I've learned the importance of really playing the scene for the scene and not for the laughs. It's a hard thing to do- having that crowd laugh at you by making a stupid face or gesture is easy, but it's so much more satisfying for them (and me!) when the laughs come out of a really honest place. What do you feel Kinky Boots can teach people today about equality? I think the idea is that we're not as different from each other as we seem. Two very different people can have so many things in common that can bring them together. We need to look beyond the physical and beyond our prejudices to get to the person underneath. What is the best advice you have for people who want to do what you’re doing? Work hard. If you could describe yourself in three words what would they be? Ummm. I don't know. How would YOU describe me? (be nice) (Rye The News Guy's Description: KIND. FUNNY. SPUNKY!)
